Kanpur Education Society : The governing body of NLK Group of Schools was founded by Late Sri Hira Lal Khanna way back in 1947. He was an eminent industrialist, philanthropist and scholar who had realized the value of imparting education in English, to the masses.
The NLK Group of institutions is a reputed chain of public schools providing quality education at an economical cost. The NLK Group of Schools impart a combination of traditional and modern values to students. The philosophy is to enhance student awareness of their own cultural identity and heritage and respect for all religions and cultures. NLK is a co-educational, secular institution with six thousand students evenly spread out in the metropolitan city of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
The School motto “We teach how to think, not what to think” is a more appropriate contemporary phrase of global education. When knowledge and ideas are replaced faster than ever in the history of time, our students stand firm with confidence and courage to face the challenges. They are sensitive and aware of global issues along with the local needs.
The visionary founders of the NLK Group had the aim that NLK would provide a very high standard of all-round education to students, through hard working and versatile teachers. They believed that a natural environment with pursuit for excellence in indoor and outdoor sports activities would lead to the wholesome development of a student. It would encourage their ability to think independently and critically and exercise proper responses to various challenges. We believe in “Vidya Dadati Vinayam” to foster dignity of labour and efforts for development of ethical and moral values.
The same legacy was carried forward by Late Smt. Pushpa Khanna Ji…
She led a great life by carving her own path, accumulating good traits, touching the lives around her positively and making the maximum contribution to society.
Smt. Pushpa Khanna Ji was born in Delhi on 3rd March, 1925. She got married to Shri Nandlal Khanna Ji in the year 1939 at the young age of 14. Her father-in-law encouraged her to study further and so she completed her masters in Hindi after having two children. Always keen to do something new , she opened a home science institute for women in Kanpur in 1960s on the model of Lady Irwin college in New Delhi. Espousing the cause of women empowerment, this institute made a lot of women self reliant. In the year 1965, when her father-in-law Shri Hiralal Khanna Ji, the great educationist, passed away, she took the reins of Poorna Devi Khanna School in her hands and took the institution to great heights. In the year 1987,she started Shri Nand Lal Khanna Vidya Mandir at Vishnupuri in memory of her husband Late Shri Nandlal Khanna ji with only seven students.
She was a registered Homeopath doctor as well as the Secretary of All India Women’s Conference (Kanpur branch). She inspired and motivated others till her last breath….. In her fond memory, the NLK Group of Schools is running the first of its kind Pediatric Neuro Rehabilitation Centre in Kanpur for providing Occupational therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech therapy, Sensory integration and Neuro Development Therapy as “Pushpa Khanna Memorial Centre.”
She is a path setter for all of us. She taught us the motto “Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow.”
